It is confirmed! I will be the keynote for the second day of the Southern Obesity Summit on October 6-7, 2014, in Louisville Kentucky. I had my own call to action during my 4197 mile solo bicycle trip across the country during the summer of 2013. I successfully implemented a 23- year goal and included in this keynote address, I will share what I did to accomplish that goal. I will talk about key lessons learned on my journey and how those lessons relate to working on obesity in schools and Read ▸ about Southern Obesity Summit- Keynote!

Cheering for UCONN… in Kentucky
I'm not sure how much this blog post will relate to school health. But does that really matter the day of the National Championship? I didn't think so.I grew up 30 minutes from Storrs, CT. Yes, home of cow pastures and open fields, but also the University of Connecticut. A university known for it's exemplary soccer and basketball programs. I moved from CT in 1993 and never went back, but as many of you can relate, the loyalty was established in my first 18 years of life. Walk the Talk
How can those of us in the school, community, public, business health field walk the talk? If we encourage schools to send consistent messages, I think we should model that as well. That does not mean we all have to complete an Iron Man, or bike across the country ;) or go on 5-day non-verbal meditation once a year (although, wouldn't that be great??). Do Something Extraordinary
This afternoon I have the privilege of speaking at Leadership Louisville's Best of Leadership Summit on my bicycle journey across the US this past summer, lessons learned and how those lessons relate to being a leader in your field, a champion in your work, a family member at home. More to come, but I hope you are able to attend and listen to stories from my 4,197 mile solo journey and learn how to balance work and play, consider who's on your team, use humor, how to be vulnerable, how to Read ▸ about Do Something Extraordinary
Dominic’s Life
I see his photo for the first time and I immediately feel like he's a part of me. Is it because I know he's my nephew or is it that seeing his photo registers physical familiarity in my brain? Either way, I'm an aunt now. I don't have my own children and so this feels as close to having one of your own, which I know really isn't close at all. But nonetheless, I'm excited to be an aunt. His name is Dominic Cordeiro Lawrence and he was born today, March 5. What do I hope for my nephew's life? Read ▸ about Dominic’s Life
Writing Coach
I don't blog here often about my recent bicycle trip across the USA. I do here. However, I haven't been posting on my Road to Rhode site often since I'm not cycling 6+ hours a day. I'm working 6+ hours a day. I've spent my writing energy updating my school health blog here instead of writing about bikes, goals, life lessons. I was connected to Amanda at Polished Pear Creative through a colleague (they are related) and I'm feeling it's serendipitous that our lives have crossed passed at Read ▸ about Writing Coach
