The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many others demonstrate that we still have work to do to dismantle the structural racism in the United States.
As a systems-thinker, I believe that the systems can be changed, just as they were built. The team at Cairn Guidance works to create healthy schools & communities, including work around equity through the lens of all school and community policies, programs and practices.
All students and community members should have access to healthcare, housing, food, safe spaces and so much more. We will continue to support those protesting and fighting for a better United States.
I taught middle school in areas predominately with students of color and have co-parented and raised a black teen. Through these experiences, I have witnessed the racism of our systems- education, employment, food, housing, & financial institutions, to name a few. It needs to change.
As a white woman, I acknowledge my privilege and recommit to continually understanding my own biases and how they might impact people of color. I will try and do better each day by listening and making change happen- as an ally & friend and as a business owner.
