Our SHAPE America Workshops- Offered Virtually!

Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

If you’re like me, you are super disappointed in the spring cancellations of events, workshops and conventions. However, during this pandemic, our health and safety is most important.

My team was planning on offering a few different sessions at SHAPE America this year during the week of April 20. In lieu of this convention’s cancellation, we’d like to offer adapted sessions via webinars online. They will be recorded if you aren’t able to join live. We’ll post these webinars to our YouTube Channel here.

Below is the schedule & session descriptions. Each webinar is slated for an hour, but may be under that. These are meant to be viewed in order, as they will build on each other and are developed as a progression of knowledge and skill-base. We have renamed them and changed them a bit for the virtual learning experience. All four sessions will be held from 2-3pm EST. Prior registration is required. We will be using Zoom and have enabled a meeting password, so once you register, you will receive that information.

Monday, April 20, 2-3pm EST: Foundations of Skill-Based Health Education
This webinar will go over what we believe are the four foundational components of a skills-based health education program: Effective Practices in Health Education, Content Standards (like the National Health Education Standards), Data and Policies.
Register here.

Tuesday, April 21, 2-3pm EST: Intro to the Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool; Building a Health Ed Unit
This webinar will introduce CDCs Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT) and its’ many uses in analyzing curriculum, revising curriculum and developing scope and sequences, units, lessons and assessments.
Register here.

Wednesday, April 22, 2-3pm EST: Assessing Students in Health Education; Rubrics and Performance Checklists
This session will discuss the importance of using rubrics and/or performance checklists when formally assessing students’ knowledge and skills. Rubrics and checklists specifically developed for health education will be shared.
Register here.

Thursday, April 23, 2-3pm EST: No-Cost Tools to Support Skills-Based Health Education
No-cost resources and tools will be shared during this session, including CDCs HECAT, RMC Health Skills Models, Cairn Guidance’s new Performance Assessment Toolkit, example scope and sequences, free curricula & a skills-based High School Program we are working on.
Register here.
