As 2015 gets its groove on, Cairn Guidance is becoming increasingly busy again after a nice respite during the holidays. Our focus is to continue to develop, revise and implement programs, practices and policies to increase our reach of healthy youth and staff, build sustainable partnerships, diversify our client-base and work, increase our advocacy efforts, model health ourselves and continue to thoroughly enjoy work!
Some new exciting projects we are working on moving ahead…
Eat Smart Move More South Carolina’s HYPE Project- We updated this after-school program in 2014 and looking forward to traveling to Columbia SC to deliver a training of trainers that will equip the staff with skills and knowledge of the revisions, participate in new activities and develop a training for their local facilitators.
KY SHAPE Cadre- We are working with KY Action for Healthy Kids, Kentucky Department of Health’s Tobacco Free Schools Program and Department of Education’s Coordinated School Health Program to deliver a retreat at Lake Cumberland State Park. Kentucky is developing a cadre of trainers (educators) with the expectations that they will assist in providing facilitation and consultation to schools and districts in their region on highly effective teaching and learning on Kentucky’s Core Academic Standards in health education and physical education. Cadre members will build partnerships, and support school health overall.
Let’s Move Active Schools- We are busy with 3 training events coming up! Jess will be doing a Let’s Move Active Schools Physical Activity Leader (PAL) training in New Jersey, Kentucky and New Mexico just this month!
Frederick County Public Schools, Maryland- We are developing a 3-day training for a a cadre of teachers in Maryland around using health education standards and assessment in the classroom. This group of teachers will then be equipped to deliver the training to others in their district.
Michigan Coordinated School Health Association (MiCSHA)- We are delivering a full day to their coordinators who serve their region, supporting Coordinated School Health Efforts and Comprehensive Health Education; the K-12 Comprehensive Michigan Model.
Oregon Community Foundation– Jess is traveling out to Eugene, Oregon in April to facilitate the Systems Thinking System Changing simulation to school teams that have received Art Education grants.
We have 4 pending keynote opportunities at state AHPERD conferences and coordinated school health summits… more to come on that!
There are other partnerships with opportunities for collaboration between many other organizations and state agencies including:
JED Foundation
Welborn Foundation
Kentucky Environmental Foundation
Missouri Department of Health
OEA Choice Trust
Oklahoma Department of Health
Tennessee Department of Education
Feel free to contact us with any opportunities to collaborate and work together to create healthier environments for our schools and communities!
