Walk the Talk

Uncategorized

How can those of us in the school, community, public, business health field walk the talk? If we encourage schools to send consistent messages, I think we should model that as well. That does not mean we all have to complete an Iron Man, or bike across the country 😉 or go on 5-day non-verbal meditation once a year (although, wouldn’t that be great??). But, as ambassadors of health, it does mean we should all be working on our mental, emotional, physical and social health regularly.

What do I do to walk the talk? I’m far from perfect, but I am fortunate that I have a ton of flexibility in my days. I don’t have children and I own my own business.  I have been running 4 times a week, doing yoga two times a week. I have been writing everyday (blog, journal and/or on my book), I’ve had two alcoholic drinks in the past 4 weeks and I’m on a healthy breakfast kick that includes making a fruit smoothie (I have to force myself to eat fruit, I’m more of a veggie freak!), soft-boiled egg on top of collard greens, arugula or spinach sautéed with garlic and green tea. I’m feeling very social these days meeting people and learning things about my new city. And, I love what I do for a living, which helps. I know that’s more than a lot of people can imagine even in one month, but everyone should try and walk the talk. Do this not to send consistent messages, but because YOU matter. And you matter to your family and community around you!
